Which direction is taking music at the beginning of the new millenium? Where is leading us the insane lobotomy of the daily life? Is it really possile to escape from reality? 3 questions which could belong to an improbable science fiction movie or a Nick Hornby's book, but it seems that Helalyn flowers really ask it 'emself before to start their artistic adventure, and which answers we can find in their debut Ep "Disconnection": a melting-pot between electro music, rock, poetry and escape from rationality. The Helalyn Flowers'one is a complete antithesis to the modern world, which grows more and more every second. The Noemi's voice, with the groovy guitars and Max' samples, let us understand that HF, through this debut work, place 'emselves in the role of whom absolutely need a detachement from routine confined models and actual music trends. And the result of this removal process &/or innovation is optimum: the intentions of the roman duo are totally present,as their attitude. All that clearly shine listening to the 5 tracks of "Disconnection", thanx to a very deep introspection in their lyrics and a sound which, although some remaind to the great famous electro-rock of the '80, put toghether refinement and modernity at the same time: thanx also to a great production, made at Christian Ice's "Temple of Noise" studios. Expecially, the hard use of electronic (in widest senses),in the 25 minutes of the Cd, helps to recreate very inner and thoughtful athmospheres, above all in the quietest fragments of "Disconnection". Aggressive and drawn tight parts are present too, and in this case the heaviest parts predominate. In both contexts, a very important role is played by the vocal lines, the authentic point of force of HF,that succeeds to reach tops of very high quality, both in the necessity to give vigour to the immediate and linear orchestrations (in "Disorder for example), and in the quieter parts of the release (listen to the final of "Alive" to believe it!). Concluding,a great visit card, wich will make happy all those who are searching for a very innovative and modern sound, and many more. In the whiletime, waiting on long distance for the Helalyn Flowers full lenght, make yours a copy of Disconnection. As they say" who starts well,has made half of the work"!

Quale direzione sta prendendo la musica agli inizi del nuovo millennio? Dove ci sta portando l’insana lobotomia della vita di tutti i giorni? E’ realmente possibile una fuga dalla realtà? Tre domande che forse potrebbero appartenere ad un improbabile film di fantascienza o ad un libro di Nick Hornby, ma che gli Helalyn Flowers sembrano realmente essersi posti prima di intraprendere la loro avventura artistica e le cui risposte ci vengono fornite dal loro Ep che porta il nome di “Disconnection”: un melting-pot fra elettronica, rock, poesia e fuga dalla razionalità. Quella degli Helalyn Flowers è una completa antitesi nei confronti del mondo moderno, che prende sempre più forma man mano che i secondi passano. La voce di Noemi insieme al groove delle chitarre e dei campionamenti di Max ci fanno capire che gli Helalyn Flowers, attraverso questo lavoro di debutto, si pongono nel ruolo di chi avverte l’assoluta necessità del distacco dagli schemi imposti sia dalla quotidianità degli eventi che dai trend musicali del momento. Ed il risultato di questo processo di allontanamento e/o innovazione è ottimale: le intenzioni del duetto proveniente da Roma ci sono tutte ed anche l’attitudine è quella necessaria. Tutto ciò traspare nettamente all’ascolto dei cinque brani di “Disconnection”, specie grazie ad una profonda introspettività nei suoi testi e ad un sound che, nonostante qualche richiamo all’illustre tradizione elettro-rock anni ’80, unisce ricercatezza e modernità allo stesso tempo: merito anche di una produzione da manuale, effettuata presso i “Temple Of Noise” studios di Christian Ice. In particolare, l’uso massiccio dell’elettronica (nel senso più ampio del termine) all’interno dei venticinque minuti di durata del disco contribuisce a ricreare atmosfere fortemente intimiste e riflessive, specie negli episodi più pacati di “Disconnection”. Ma non mancano di certo parti più tirate ed aggressive ed in questo caso sono sonorità più prettamente “heavy” a farla da padrone. In entrambi i contesti comunque giocano un ruolo di primissimo piano le linee vocali, l’autentico punto di forza degli Helalyn Flowers, capaci di raggiungere picchi di altissimo spessore qualitativo sia quando si tratta di dare vigore alle immediate e lineari orchestrazioni dei nostri (vedi “Disorder”), che nei momenti di maggiore pacatezza del disco (ascoltatevi il finale di “Alive” per credere). In definitiva, un biglietto da visita davvero niente male, che farà la felicità di tutti coloro che sono alla ricerca di un sound fresco ed innovativo, ma non solo. Mentre qui aspettiamo gli Helalyn Flowers al varo del disco su lunga distanza, fate vostra una copia di “Disconnection”. Come dice il detto, “chi ben comincia, è a metà dell’opera”! Avanti così!
